About

This game was developed as part of a Bachelors Thesis that analyzes how video games can help us reflect our own mortality and how this serious topic can be interpreted as a meaningful game mechanic. It was developed over the course of roughly 12 weeks and may recieve some updates in the future.

Game Description

The Sacrifice is a 2D adventure game that tells a story about love, loss and an ultimate sacrifice.

Players experience the story of a romantic couple and how they got torn apart by an untimely death. But since the main character is unable to accept the loss of their beloved partner, they decides to travel to the underworld to retrieve her themself.

<The Sacrifice> is designed to counter our so called 'Death Denying-Culture' seen across all media by openly displaying death related and drawing an analogy between death and its core game mechanic- Every choice players make will come with permanent consequences and can't be ignored.
